Flip Flops, Reconsidered

The ones who get it, get it.

Flip flops have always been one of those pieces that divide opinions. To some, they will always feel too casual—something reserved for the beach, vacations, or days when getting dressed is not the priority. But to others, they are one of the most effortless and chic shoes a wardrobe can have.

Personally, I wear mine constantly. Living in Mexico City, it has been interesting to see the reactions they get—from strangers on the street to family members who still question why I would choose a flip flop over something more traditional. But that is exactly what makes them special: style is not only about what others understand, but about what makes you feel like yourself.

The flip flop is a piece that you can make work in your favor. The key is knowing where to wear them and how to style them. A simple leather pair with relaxed tailoring, a summer dress, or your everyday uniform can feel intentional, modern, and completely effortless.

The Olsen twins, among other style icons, have long understood the power of understated dressing, incorporating flip flops into their daily wardrobes as proof that comfort and elegance can exist together.

Perhaps that is why they have become a favorite among our editors. They are uncomplicated, comfortable, and quietly confident—the kind of shoe that does not need everyone to understand it.

This summer, the flip flop deserves to be seen differently. Because sometimes the most personal pieces in our closets are the ones that make the least sense to everyone else.
